Sloppy Joe’s, kids will eat.

Tomato Soup Sloppy Joe’s

– This is the recipe my mom always made when I was a kid. A lot of kids do not like traditional sloppy joe’s, they have green pepper, big pieces of onion, spicy and a bit tangy for their sensitive tastes.

For this recipe you will need-Makes  10-12+sloppy joes

  • 1.5-2 lbs ground beef or turkey
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 can condensed tomato soup-10.75 oz
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 full empty soup can of water or milk
  • Buns or wraps of your choice

**Optional – 1/3 package dry sloppy joe seasoning mix of your choice. (I do this when I use a bit over 2 lbs of ground beef.)

Brown your ground beef or turkey in a large skillet or small dutch oven on the stove top with the onion, that has been chopped very fine.  Add salt and pepper to taste. After your meat is completely cooked through, drain completely. Add the rest of your ingredients. Cover and turn heat down to medium low, stirring frequently. Cook till it begins to bubble shortly after every time you stir it well.

Tips

Put your cornstarch in the 1/4 can of water and place a plastic lid over it, so you can shake it, to mix before adding to meat. When first placing the meat into the pan, do not press it together, so it will fall apart into crumbles of ground meat, as you cook it. Use a flat cooking utensil to stir your meat and onions while you cook it, so you can press meat to the pan to help break it up. Cover while you brown, to keep it from cooking to a crisp, the condensation will help it brown without drying out.

Suggestions

This makes a great chip dip mixture. Roll it in a wrap for a less sloppy creation. ( large wraps are not recommended) Small size wraps are great and fun for the kids. Wrap several up and place in oven safe dish and coat with cheese and bake at 300, till cheese is melted, for a change of pace. If mixture is already hot, only takes about 10-15 mins. (I like my wrap to crisp around the ends) This is a great crock pot party food. Make it on the weekend for quick lunches or grab an go, when you are going to have a busy weekend. Very easy to heat some in a dish and throw on a bun or wrap it up anytime.
